Creating a new brand from scratch with a compelling website
Rens de Jong is a journalist. He presented various TV programs on RTLZ, including 'In zaken', and is still heard weekly on BNR with the radio program 'Werkverkenners'. In addition, he moderates conferences, events, and town hall meetings as a chairperson for various companies and organizations. In this capacity, he is regularly given a glimpse into the operations of small to medium-sized enterprises. This has strengthened his belief that companies can facilitate positive change. However, it’s crucial that the CEO and management get their people on board to achieve this change. You need to be able to create a team, a solid team.
Â
This is less easy than it seems in a time when individualization and polarization go hand in hand. It became increasingly clear to him that companies that fail to get their people aligned are unable to convey their message internally. This led Rens to the idea of using his communication skills to help CEOs and entrepreneurs inform and especially inspire their employees.
Â
Rens contacted me to brainstorm about his business idea. He already had a name in mind: WePower. The contours of the brand story were not yet clear to him. Additionally, he wanted to quickly develop a website as a means to address CEOs and entrepreneurs. In a few sessions, we created the brand identity and brand personality of WePower. The brand story was rooted in the belief that people only start moving when the direction is clear. And the most important means to indicate that direction is clear and inspiring communication.
Durk Hattink, a freelance art director, and I developed the concept for the website, which transforms loose, scattered dots into a clear shape or collective if you will, as you scroll down. The scattered dots gain meaning through the shape they adopt. A clear, simple and effective concept. Exactly what you’d expect from 'a communications collective that empowers leaders and makes employees work better together.’ Click on one of the images in this post and see for yourself.

Durk is responsible for the website design, I wrote the copy, and we built the website in collaboration with Webreturn in Heiloo. Let me know what you think of it.
