The Heart Foundation turns your name into a lottery ticket

Creating an innovative way of fundraising

The Heart Foundation fights against heart and vascular diseases. This is very much needed because currently, there are 1.7 million Dutch people with a heart or vascular condition. And if no action is taken, this number will be nearly 3 million in a few years. Therefore, the Heart Foundation does everything it can to make us aware of the importance of a healthy heart and what we can do to keep it that way. For instance, by investing in research that helps doctors detect heart and vascular diseases more quickly and treat them more effectively. This requires money. A lot of money.

An alternative and innovative way to raise enough funds is a lottery. The Heart Foundation came up with the idea to start a lottery where your name is your ticket. Or the name of your partner. Or that of your dog. That's why we called it the Name Lottery, or as we say in Dutch:

Together with Charles Hale, freelance art director, I brought the Name Lottery to life with a cheerful design-approach and an inspring tone-of-voice . We created a logo, a descriptor, the copy and design for the website, as well as a payoff: ‘Je naam is een lot uit de loterij’. Roughly translated: 'Your name is a winning lottery ticket'. Which is all true, because 80% of your entry fee goes directly to the Heart Foundation. If you look at it that way, you always win.

The Name Lottery enables players to win 1 million euros with their name every month. The website is facilitated and hosted by the Impact Lottery in collaboration with the Heart Foundation. All in all, a great initiative. Check out the website by clicking on one of the images in this post.
